KONGRESSHALLE

Fabien Prioville moves in a dark and sinister world - a tormented figure, who must face his inner struggles and fight them alone. As a prisoner looking for an escape route, the dancer is actually integrated into the video background, up to the moment when his pent-up emotions are vented. The starting point for Prioville’s solo piece was his research into the reports of a Japanese youth, who arbitrarily killed a group of people with a knife. In collaboration with the sound and media artist Frank Schulte, and with the VJ Uli Sigg, Fabien Prioville is searching for a language, which, on one level, is purely abstract and, on another, richly sensual. Brutal scenes of violence from the world of virtual reality video games are presented. Sometimes the artist observes from the outside, and sometimes he seems to be integrated into the action. JAILBREAK MIND enables the audience to get a glimpse into the contrary emotional world of the perpetrator. Fabien Prioville develops his dance style using the themes of emotional reticence and interaction with the digital dream world.

After completing his dance studies at the Centre National de Danse Contemporaine (CNDC) in Angers, Fabien Prioville worked with choreographers such as Josef Nadj and Davis Freeman. Choreographic commissions have taken him as far away as the Julliard School in New York and Japan. His engagements as a dancer included working with Edouard Lock‘s Lalala Human Steps and Philippe Blanchard in Sweden. Most recently (1999 – 2006) he was an ensemble member of Pina Bausch‘s Wuppertaler Tanztheater. JAILBREAK MIND is his first full-length solo work.
